Welcome to the Bognor Regis Civic Society website and, if you are not a resident, welcome to our Town and come to visit us soon.  We hope you will find the information you need in these pages, but if not please use our contact page to get in touch and ask.  We welcome all enquiries and we warmly welcome all new members too!

This website is for all who care about Bognor Regis, and we take an active interest in everything in and around our Town, including the parishes of Pagham, Aldwick, Bersted, Felpham and Middleton.  Click on about us to find out more about our Society and what we do.

WHY HAS THE CIVIC SOCIETY BEEN SO QUIET THESE LAST FOUR YEARS?

Lots of people have asked this and, well yes, we have been quiet – no public meetings, although the Committee has continued to meet every month, Covid permitting – mostly!  But the reason is that we were heavily distracted elsewhere – with all the same sort of activities that inspired the formation of CiViC way back in 1998.  But in a different – and very challenging –way, and to learn more about it all, please click on quiet.

BUT NOT SO QUIET NOW – WE’RE BACK!

— And there is work to be done.  Have a look at the Hot Local Issues below and follow the links – these are local topics which all of us need to pay attention to, or  we may find that things are done to our town which (when its too late) we will not be happy with.

OVER A £MILLION OF YOUR MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN?    Arun’s “Regeneration Consultant” (perhaps with some help from the former CEO) has excelled himself in negotiations which appear to have cost us all a great deal of money.  Click here for more …

…..............................

WAS THIS INCOMPETENCE OR CORRUPTION? – or both? – or neither? And why has there been no investigation to find out?  Why did Arun District Council allow itself to be forced into accepting a unnecessary and very expensive “buyback” and “land sale” deal connected with the Regis Centre refurbishment? Many people want to know this, click here for more…

…................................

“WAYFINDING” SCHEME FOR THE TOWN?  This has been sneaking around the secret back rooms of certain unelected bodies – working quietly, it would seem, with certain persons in some elected bodies and a certain “consultant” – but nobody’s telling anybody anything much.  A bit wild and wacky?  Or bright new ideas? Will there be proper consultation?  We all need to know more, but what we do know so far is  here

…..................................

NEW! Have a look at our “Letters to the Editor” page where you will find comment on these topics and others.  Click here to see it – and better still send us your letters and comments for inclusion.  For our email address click here

….................................

£38,000 FOR FIVE NEW TOILET DOORS?  What sort of a door costs £7,600?  Bulletproof?  Fancy all-glass sliding ones with computerised electronic controls?  Er, no, these are ordinary doors to the infamous blue-roofed public toilets on the Promenade opposite the Esplanade Grande building.  And this was the sum paid by Arun.  Scandalous or what?  Click on doors for more…

More will be added shortly – watch this space!

NEWS.  Find out about all the current and latest issues of importance locally.  Such things as: what would happen to our theatre if Arun’s plans went ahead?  Are they really going to close the Esplanade?  When are all the potholes going to be repaired?  Why didn’t ASDA come here?  What’s being done about congestion on the A259?  Are they going to build thousands of houses at Chalcraft Lane? Why has WSCC spent £120,000 on chairs they don’t really need?  What happened when three of the 6 General Election 2010 candidates failed to turn up at a meeting we specially organised for the public to meet and question them?  Click on the reds to find out all this and more...
